Women On Target - 2019 Photos
Saturday, June 23, 2018. Twenty one women attended the first Women On Target seminar sponsored by the Fitchburg Sportsmen's Club. Activities included class room training, and in the field shooting of shotguns, pistols, rifles, and primitive firearms.
The day started around 10 am with classroom instruction, led by our very own Keith Maynard, on basic gun safety and handling. Various types of pistols, rifles, shotguns and replica 1750 and 1770 era flint lock rifles were available for general handling and instructional purposes.
After lunch, prepared by Joanne Bunnell, we all hit the ranges in small groups and each participant had the opportunity to fire. Many women had never fired some of the firearms until this event. Safe to say virtually all of the women had never fired an authentic replica, 50 cal. flint lock rifle. By the end of the day, nearly all of the women had.
Women On Target is designed by the NRA and only offered to women as a place to learn personal defense or a new sport. These clinics are designed to teach firearm safety and the fundamentals of marksmanship.
All firearms used were supplied by FSC members. The replica flint lock rifles were hand made by FSC's own Ted (Alan) Shattuck.
Photos of the event have been uploaded into a photo album which can be viewed or downloaded by clicking Women On Target.
Thanks to all of the participating women and to the members of the FSC Range and Trap Committees for spending their personal time to have such a successful event. We look forward to more of these Women On Target seminars as the years progress.
